# Nova Chat

**Nova Chat** is the community-paid message allowance that comes with **Community PRO**. In a PRO server/group, members' conversations with Nova are paid for by the **community's own pooled budget** — so a member chatting with Nova there **doesn't spend their personal free daily limit**.

Without it, every member talks to Nova on their own personal allowance (free users: 10 requests/day, everywhere combined). With Nova Chat, your community absorbs that cost: a newcomer with zero history can ask Nova twenty questions in your server on day one, and still have their full personal limit left for DMs and other communities.

{% hint style="info" %}
Nova Chat is automatic — there's **nothing to enable and nothing members need to do**. The moment a community is on Community PRO, messages to Nova in that server/group draw from the pool. See [Nova Premium for Communities](/nova-bot/premium/nova-premium-for-communities.md).

## The Pool

| Budget                             | Limit          |
| ---------------------------------- | -------------- |
| **Community pool, per day**        | 150 messages   |
| **Community pool, per month**      | 2,500 messages |
| **Fair share, per member per day** | 50 messages |

The **fair-share cap** is what keeps the pool honest: one hyperactive member can't drain the whole day's budget before anyone else wakes up. After a member's 50th pooled message of the day, they simply continue on their own personal allowance.

{% hint style="success" %}
**The pool only ever adds headroom — it never takes any away.** When a cap is reached (fair-share, daily, or monthly), members fall back to exactly the personal limits they'd have without it: free users keep their 10/day, and a member with personal [PRO](/nova-bot/premium.md) keeps their 100/day on top of whatever the pool already covered. Caps reset automatically — daily at midnight UTC, monthly on the 1st.
{% endhint %}

## What Members See

Nothing, usually — that's the point. Nova just answers, and nobody's personal counter moves.

The only time Nova Chat becomes visible is when a budget runs out mid-day **and** the member's personal limit is also spent. Then, instead of the generic limit notice, Nova explains what actually happened:

> 🚫 *Nova Chat has used up this community's daily message budget (150/day). It resets automatically — no action needed. Personal daily limits apply until it resets.*

## Checking the Pool

Any admin can see live pool usage in the plan status — in your server/group, ask:

> *"@Nova what plan are we on?"* · *"@Nova show our plan status"*

The status card includes the Nova Chat line:

```
💬 Nova Chat pool: 37/150 messages today · 412/2,500 this month —
   members chat with Nova here without spending their personal
   daily limit (fair-share 50/member/day).
```

## The Fine Print

| Question                          | Answer                                                                                                                                             |
| --------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Does it apply in DMs?** | No — the pool covers messages **inside the PRO server/group**. DMs always use personal limits. |
| **Do admins draw from the pool?** | Bot admins bypass rate limits entirely and never touch the pool. |
| **Do cooldowns still apply?** | Yes — the short per-user cooldown and the per-server hourly limit still protect against bursts; the pool only replaces the personal *daily* limit. |
| **What about free communities?** | Nothing changes — members use their personal limits exactly as before. |
| **Both platforms?** | Yes — a plan covering a Discord server and a Telegram group shares one pool across both. |

Nova Chat pairs naturally with [Nova Soul](/nova-bot/nova-ai-agent/community/nova-soul.md) (your community's custom persona) — together they make Nova feel like *your community's own bot*: it speaks with your identity, on your budget.
